Trip Québec 2013
Trip Québec 2013
We are just back from an awesome trip in Quebec. I was traveling there those past 3 weeks with Abel Thevenet, Mikael Hyla and Valentin Bernard, 3 very good french kayakers and friends. Our goal was to experience the Stakeout in Quebec, this hunt for big waves in spring. In Quebec and Ontario, we found some of the most beautiful big waves we ever surfed.
We have been very lucky on the levels, as the rivers this years have seen their highest peak since thirty years in this area. When we got there, the flows were on their way down so we had all the big waves running one after the other.
We could surf a lot of different waves, which is not common in one single trip, and their quality were just unreal.
My favorite was probably the ruins, a fast, big feature with a perfect V shape: you can fly either righty or lefty, and give express your inspiration on the moves, as the wave is pretty easy for this size.
We also had an amazing time on the big bus/mini bus rapid. We strayed on this island right beside the waves for 14 days in our trip. We have been able to practise a lot this way, live simply and focus on the kayaking. Bus eater and mini bus are just so dynamic, you learn a lot from spending time on them, and you always end up lying even higher than expected.
This trip was amazing, and it's just calling the next one, worlds in september, time to train… The next big water trip is also scheduled, this winter we will be at the Zambezi, an every kayaker dream…
Cheers
